#3 - Receive the Living Breath

"He breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit."

Speaker: Pastor Lowell Perkins
April 13, 2008
Sunday Morning Service

The Post-Resurrection Visits of Jesus

Genesis 2:7 (NIV)
the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Ezekiel 37:1-5 (NIV)
1  The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.
2  He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.
3  He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I said, "O Sovereign LORD, you alone know."
4  Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones and say to them, 'Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!
5  This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.

John 20:19-22 (NIV)
19  On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"
20  After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
21  Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."
22  And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:1-4 (NIV)
1  When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
4  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

x

There was PRESENCE in his BREATH
JN. 14:18 - "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."
MT. 28:20 - "Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

x

There was a PICTURE in his BREATH
GE. 2:7 - "God formed the man ... breathed into his nostrils the breath of life ..."
